As the clock struck the final hours of December 31st, 2023, the aura of anticipation was palpable. The grand entrance of Car Space was flanked by magnificent pre-war cars from the Antique Automobile Club of America Museum Museum, transporting me into a realm of timeless sophistication.

Dressed in my best, I stepped into a scene reminiscent of a classic cinematic gala from the 1930s.

The moment I entered the Car Space museum gallery, I was enveloped in the stunning "A Journey Through Time: Pre-World War II Cars" exhibition. It was more than an array of automobiles; it was a tapestry of history woven with the threads of luxury and innovation. 

My eyes first landed on the distinguished 1938 Lincoln Model K Twelve, one of two surviving models in existence. This rare gem was a piece of living history, recalling an era when automobiles were a symbol of status and grandeur. The Lincoln's sleek lines and regal aura spoke of presidential parades and a storied past that included service in war efforts, blending power with purpose in a way that only a vehicle of its caliber could.

Moving through the gallery, each car told its own story. A 1939 Rolls Royce Silver Wraith, for example, stood as a testament to the opulence of its time. Previously owned by MGM actor Robert Montgomery before he sold it to join in the war effort as a Navy sailor, the Rolls Royce was a hallmark of a time when automobiles were as much about luxury as they were about transportation. Its elegant body, crafted by H.J. Mulliner Coachbuilders of London, showcased the epitome of craftsmanship, marrying advanced engineering with unparalleled style. Each curve, each line of the Wraith spoke of nights at glamorous Hollywood events, a time when the car was as much a star as the actors it transported. This New Years, I and the other 150 guests in attendance were the stars.

Other cars included a 1929 Cord L29 with its groundbreaking front-wheel drive and a 1928 Pierce Arrow Model 36, renowned for its artistic connection to Frank Lloyd Wright. The Cord's innovative design and the Pierce Arrow’s luxurious detailing were not just feats of engineering; they were reflections of the ambitions and dreams of their eras. 

Surrounded by these magnificent machines, the event transcended a mere gathering, becoming a celebration of the rich tapestry of automotive history.

As the Casino Royale evening at Car Space unfolded, it wasn't just the thrill of the games that captivated us; it was the knowledge that each roll of the dice, spin of the roulette wheel, and dealt hand of blackjack contributed to a noble cause. The casino games, set against a backdrop of historical marvels, became arenas of excitement and joy. The craps table was a particular hotspot, with each roll of the dice bringing cheers and gasps from the crowd. It was more than a game; it was a shared experience, a collective ride on the wings of chance.

The roulette table drew its own crowd, with guests placing their bets and watching in anticipation as the wheel spun and the ball danced before settling. The excitement peaked when it landed on black, eliciting a chorus of cheers. Over at the blackjack tables, the thrill was in the skill and luck of the draw. The satisfaction of hitting a blackjack and winning big, even in a game where no real money was at stake, was thrilling. 

We were all aware that our participation in the event was supporting Racing for Heroes (RFH). This organization offers a healing hand to Veterans battling PTSD and TBI through the adrenaline and camaraderie of motorsports. Our involvement in the night's festivities held a deeper significance, knowing that the proceeds were aiding RFH in their mission to use the excitement of racing as a therapeutic tool for Veterans. This added a layer of warmth to our interactions, as we not only made new friends and celebrated the new year but also contributed to a cause that resonates with the values of camaraderie and support.

The Casino Royale event at Car Space Raleigh was a perfect blend of excitement, community, and philanthropy. As we ushered in the new year with games, laughter, and new connections, we also embraced the opportunity to be a part of something larger — supporting those who served through the joy and thrill of racing.

As the clock wound down to midnight, the atmosphere in the gallery, already electric with excitement, reached a crescendo. Surrounded by the timeless elegance of pre-war classics, we all gathered for the much-anticipated moment. We raised our glasses for the champagne toast and a sense of unity and jubilation enveloped us. It was a magical blend of the past and present, a moment where time seemed to stand still, allowing us to savor the beginning of a new year. This wasn't just a transition of time; it was a celebration of new beginnings, of ambitions and resolutions set against the backdrop of automotive history.

The night was more than just a gala; it was an opportunity to forge new friendships and connections. With over 150 members and guests from the Raleigh area and beyond in attendance, each conversation and introduction felt like the beginning of something significant. In the midst of sharing stories and laughter, I found myself making new friends, our camaraderie sparked by the shared experience of this unique event. We exchanged contact information, clinked glasses, and talked about our aspirations for the year ahead. There was a sense of eagerness and optimism in these interactions, a feeling that we were not just celebrating the turn of the year but also the potential of what lay ahead. 

This event wasn't just about marking another year; it was about building relationships and looking forward to the opportunities and adventures that 2024 might bring.

As the event drew to a close, I was left with a profound sense of admiration for Car Space's ability to create an experience that so elegantly bridged history, luxury, and community.
